Valentine Messages
For Nursing Home Residents
We're inviting you to send cheer to nursing home residents for Valentine's Day. You may submit a digital copy of your heartfelt, handwritten messages using the form below. Messages will be made into Valentine's Day cards by our members.
Why
Social isolation and loneliness impact many seniors living in nursing homes.
These seniors are impacted by bereavement - the loss of loved ones such as a spouse, sibling, or friend.
Loneliness can contribute to health issues such as increased risk of heart disease, dementia, depression, and anxiety. Likewise, chronic conditions and mental health issues make it harder to maintain social relationships.
How
The cards will be distributed by the nursing home's recreation officer, in no particular order. See guidelines below for examples of wording that keeps the card friendly and non-specific.
Greetings: "Hi there", "To someone special", "Dear friend"
Personal details: Please do not include personally identifiable information beyond your first name and general location. For example, you may choose to sign your message "Joan from Queens, NY".
